New Delhi. Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Angmo has moved the Delhi High Court against the sudden shifting of Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Raising questions on Safdarjung Hospital, he appealed to the Delhi High Court to hear the petition immediately. Geetanjali Angmo has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding referral of her husband Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital. Geetanjali said that she does not trust Safdarjung Hospital. He said in his petition, “On Saturday, arbitrarily and in violation of fundamental rights, the police forcibly removed Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar without her consent and took her to Safdarjung Hospital. The police took undue and wrongful advantage of the High Court order.”
“At the time of her removal from the protest site, Sonam Wangchuk’s vital health parameters were stable and she was under the care of qualified doctors at the protest site. No medical emergency or other circumstance existed necessitating such sudden and forcible action. The forcible removal was neither medically necessary nor legally justified. This is a clear violation of Sonam Wangchuk’s fundamental rights,” the plea said.
He alleged that despite repeated requests, he was given only selective information. The family’s request to shift Sonam Wangchuk to another hospital has also been rejected. In her petition, Geetanjali Angmo expressed concern about the health of her husband Sonam Wangchuk. He said he was troubled by the alleged medical treatment being secretive and completely opaque.
Allegations have also been made in the petition that Sonam Wangchuk has been kept in Safdarjung Hospital against the wishes of the family. He is neither being allowed to meet his legal counsel nor the doctors who were treating him for the last 20 days. He said that despite there being no legal order for arrest or detention, doing so is completely arbitrary.
Geetanjali Angmo said, “She has to approach the High Court so that she can get appropriate instructions. The purpose of these directions is to ensure that the doctors who have been examining Sonam Wangchuk for the last 20 days and her legal advisors can meet her without any hindrance. She is allowed to be shifted to a private hospital as per the family’s wishes.”
