Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha that the government will review the conditions of salary, allowances and pension of employees and pensioners under the 8th Pay Commission. He further said that the commission will give its recommendations in due time. The commission has been given 18 months to submit its report. This clearly shows that the commission will submit its report to the government in 2027. The government will take any further steps only after receiving the recommendations. This means that central employees may have to wait a long time for the 8th pay commission.
The picture is still not clear regarding increased expenses due to pay commission.
MPs also raised an important question regarding the 8th Pay Commission: how much of a burden will it place on the government budget if its recommendations are implemented. The government clarified that it is impossible to make an accurate estimate of this expenditure right now. According to the government, the actual financial impact cannot be estimated until the commission submits its report and gets approval. This means that the complete plan related to the budget can be prepared only after the final report of the commission comes.
Employee organizations will go on strike on February 12, 2026
The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers (CCGEW) has announced a one-day strike across the country on February 12, 2026. The main demands of the unions include 20% interim relief, adding 50% dearness allowance to the basic salary, and implementing the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) by abolishing the NPS. Unions will take to the streets tomorrow with these demands.
