New Delhi, May 30 (IANS). Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA), has crossed the important milestone of creating 90 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (Abha) across the country. The government gave this information on Saturday.
Uttar Pradesh is at the forefront by creating more than 15.3 crore Ayushman Bharat health accounts. After this, 7.1 crore accounts have been created in each state of Rajasthan and Maharashtra, 6.3 crore accounts have been created in Bihar and 5.9 crore accounts have been created in West Bengal.
Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Karnataka have also contributed significantly, which shows the adoption of digital health services across the country.
This achievement is a major step in India’s journey towards a connected, interoperable and citizen-centric digital health system. Since the inception of ABDM, there has been continuous growth in the process of making Aura.
According to the Health Ministry, the total number of hospitalizations on a calendar year basis increased from 14.7 crore in 2021 to 30.4 crore in 2022. After this, this number increased to 50.6 crores in 2023, 72.2 crores in 2024 and 84.5 crores in 2025 and in 2026 Abha crossed the figure of 90 crores.
Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO, National Health Authority, said that the creation of more than 90 crore Aabha shows the increasing participation of citizens, states, union territories and ecosystem partners in the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Aabha is an important step towards empowering citizens by giving them secure and consent-based access to their own health information.
He said that as the adoption of ABDM deepens, Abha will enable continuity of treatment, reduce dependence on paper records and promote a more simple, transparent and citizen-centric healthcare delivery system.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have fully achieved the target.
Nearly half of all Auras created are women, accounting for 49.75 percent of total Aura holders. This is an important step towards empowering women, especially those living in rural areas, by giving them secure digital access to their health records.
Abha can help maintain continuity of care from the first point of contact with the health system, including maternal and child care, immunizations and other essential health services.
For citizens, Aabha helps to digitally link health records maintained across different health facilities and applications. This reduces the need for them to carry around their medical documents, and allows them to securely share their health information with healthcare providers whenever needed and with their consent.
