New Delhi, January 18 (IANS). In the winter season, problems like cold, cough and sore throat become common. The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India recommends the inclusion of decoction of ginger, basil and turmeric as an Ayurvedic remedy. This not only boosts immunity rapidly but also provides relief from cold and infections.
According to the ministry, every good habit is a new beginning. In this cold, easily prepared home mixture of ginger, basil and turmeric is not only safe, but also increases immunity and gives warmth to the body. These natural ingredients have been used in Ayurveda for centuries, making them a small but effective step toward comfort and healthy living during the winter season.
Ginger soothes sore throat, removes mucus and is rich in anti-inflammatory properties. Basil (Tulsi) is anti-bacterial and anti-viral, which clears the lungs and strengthens the immune system. Turmeric contains curcumin, which reduces inflammation and fights infection. The decoction or herbal drink made by mixing these three proves to be very beneficial in winter.
Ayurvedacharya also explains an easy way to make the decoction, take 3 cups of water for 2 cups of decoction. Add 1 inch fresh grated ginger, 8-10 basil leaves and half teaspoon turmeric powder or raw turmeric. You can also add some black pepper. Boil it on medium flame for 10-15 minutes, until the water reduces to half. Filter it and when it becomes lukewarm, add 1 teaspoon jaggery or honey. Drinking it every morning and evening keeps the body warm, provides relief from cough and cold and increases immunity.
This mixture can be easily made at home and has no side effects. If there is any kind of allergy then definitely consult a doctor.
