New Delhi, January 25 (IANS). Bad eating habits, pollution, changing weather and stress have a deep impact on health. Both Ayurveda and science say that health can be improved by small habits. One of the simplest and most effective habits is walking.

Walking not only strengthens our muscles and bones, but also helps in improving heart health and prolonging life.

Ayurveda says that walking balances the body’s energy and vitality, improves digestion and reduces mental stress. Science also believes that daily walking reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke to a great extent.

Walking is the easiest exercise for a person of any age. When we walk, our heart beats faster, blood circulation improves and the toxins accumulated in the body are released. Regular walking keeps blood pressure under control, bad cholesterol reduces and weight remains balanced. It is also very beneficial for mental health. While walking, endorphin hormones are released in the body, which reduces stress and makes the mood happy.

According to Ayurveda, fast walking activates Pranavayu in the body, which increases energy and strengthens the body’s immunity. To prevent heart attack, experts believe that one should walk briskly for at least thirty minutes daily.

According to studies by the American Heart Foundation and Northwestern Medicine, a 30-minute brisk walk, or about 9,000 to 10,000 steps, five days a week is ideal for heart health. Due to this, blood circulation remains proper, heart beat becomes stronger and blood pressure and cholesterol remain balanced. If someone is not able to do such a long walk then even 3,800 to 4,000 steps are initially beneficial. It is important to go regularly every day.

Experts say that this habit is even more beneficial for the elderly. The study found that if people aged 60 years and above walk 6,000 to 9,000 steps daily, their risk of heart attack and stroke is reduced by 40 to 50 percent compared to those who walk only 2,000 steps daily.

Walking about 2.5 miles to 4 miles keeps the heart strong and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Ayurveda also believes that regular and balanced walking maintains body heat and energy, thereby leading to a long and healthy life.
