Ottawa, 3 October (IANS). A measles -infected premature child died in Alberta. This is the first death from measles in the province, but this year is the second death in the entire Canada, due to measles. On this, Health Minister Adriana Lagrange expressed deep grief.
Adriana Lagrange said that measles can prove to be extremely dangerous for children under five years of age, pregnant women and people with weak immunity.
The minister has especially appealed to those who are planning the child to get two doses of measles before pregnancy, as vaccination is not recommended during pregnancy.
Earlier, in June this year, a similar case came to light in Ontario, where the premature child died of measles.
The disease in Canada has been spreading rapidly since last October. According to health officials, a total of 5,006 measles cases have been registered in the country till 20 September this year, with Alberta and Ontario the most affected provinces.
This situation is worrying about measles, as Canada declared the disease ended in 1998. However, now the disease is now coming back and spreading across the country.
According to the World Health Organization, measles is a highly infectious disease caused by virus. It spreads easily by an infected person by breathing, coughing or sneezing.
Khasra can happen to anyone, but this disease is more common in children, especially in children. This virus first infects the windpipe and then gradually spreads throughout the body. Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, nose and rash on the body.
The most effective way to prevent measles is to install vaccine. The measles vaccine is completely safe, and it helps the body fight the virus.
Till the time of measles vaccine came around the world, there used to be big epidemic every two to three years, causing about 26 lakh people every year.
However, in 2023, around 107,500 people died due to measles, mostly children younger than five years.
Measles symptoms usually appear 10 to 14 days after coming in contact with the virus. First of all, rashes come out on the body which starts from the face and neck and gradually spread throughout the body. Initial symptoms are the nose flowing, cough, red eyes, water from the eyes and white rash inside the cheeks etc. Rasures usually last 5 to 6 days and then gradually disappear.
