Indore, January 23 (IANS). Collector Shivam Verma reached Mhow late on Thursday night after receiving information about the spread of water-borne diseases due to contaminated drinking water in Patti Bazaar and Chandar Marg of Mhow area of Indore district. He visited the local hospital and met the admitted patients, inquired about their health condition and discussed treatment arrangements with the doctors.
Nine patients who fell ill due to consumption of contaminated water are currently admitted in the hospital, while some others are taking treatment at their homes. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the health department is in full alert mode.
On the instructions of Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Madhav Hassani, the health department has been deployed on the spot since morning. He said that along with the expert team of Indore Medical College, other experienced doctors are also being sent to Mhow so that better treatment can be provided if needed.
During this time, regional MLA Usha Thakur also reached the hospital and met the patients and their families and inquired about their well-being.
Collector Shivam Verma gave strict instructions to the health department that there should be no shortage in the treatment of any patient and adequate availability of essential medicines and resources should be ensured.
The Collector also directed the Mhow Cantt Board to immediately get the quality of drinking water checked in the area and the sanitation system should be further strengthened, so that such incidents do not recur in future. Along with this, he also interacted with the residents of the affected areas and heard their problems.
The Collector said that the treatment of all the patients is continuing in the hospital and the government is continuously monitoring the entire incident. He said that health survey will be started in the affected areas from morning. Those who are found to have symptoms of the disease during the survey will be provided immediate treatment, while serious patients will be admitted to the hospital.
At present, the condition of any patient is not said to be serious and some of the admitted patients are likely to be discharged today. All necessary precautionary measures are being taken by the administration.
