New Delhi, October 26 (IANS). In Ayurveda, food is not just considered a means to fill the stomach, but a medicine. This means that what we eat has a deep impact on our body, mind and soul. If we eat food wisely and consciously, it helps in increasing our immunity, maintaining energy and maintaining mental balance.
Our mental state while eating is as important as the quality of the food. If we eat food under stress or hurriedly, the body is not able to digest it properly and we do not get the full benefit of nutrition. For this reason, emphasis has been laid in Ayurveda on ‘mindful eating’ i.e. eating consciously and carefully. Chewing every bite of food and enjoying its taste not only nourishes the body but also gives mental peace.
A balanced diet also means that we take care of all types of nutrients. It should include proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Also, fresh and seasonal foods should be chosen.
It is also said in Ayurveda that food should be taken according to the needs of the body, neither too heavy, nor too light. A light and easily digestible food maintains the metabolic fire of the body, keeping you energetic and healthy throughout the day.
Food balances not only the body but also the mind. Eating at the right time, in a balanced and conscious manner reduces mental stress, improves mood and increases concentration ability. This is the easiest and natural way to maintain energy and freshness in our life.
It is said in Ayurveda that food should be consumed in a balanced and mindful manner, considering it as medicine. When we adopt this habit, not only our body remains healthy, but our mind and soul also remain happy.
