New Delhi, February 10 (IANS). The biggest mantra to maintain health in Unani medicine is Harkat-o-Sukoon Badani (balance of correct movement and rest of the body). This means that the body should move and also take rest from time to time. Maintaining the right balance keeps our health, strength and mind strong.

When we do light or moderate physical activity, the dirt and residues accumulated inside the body come out. Unani medicine calls it Tankiya. This cleansing helps in keeping our skin, organs and entire body healthy. Whereas when we rest, our internal energy is fully active in digestion and repair. At this time the body gets a chance to accumulate its energy and fight diseases.

But keep in mind that apart from gender, every person’s age, body structure and temperament is different. Therefore, the method of exercise and rest should also be different. For example, people with a hot temper may do lighter activities in the summer and be a little more active in the winter. Whereas people with cold temperament should adopt light activity in winter and regular light physical activity in summer. This is why Unani medicine does not give the same method for everyone, but advises to maintain balance according to the body.

Some simple but effective things have been mentioned in Unani medicine. First of all, do light physical activity every day. Walking in the morning or evening, light running, yoga or stretching both cleanses the body and increases strength. Second, avoid laziness. Due to continuous sitting the body becomes lethargic and weak. Get up every once in a while, stretch or do light activity. Third, choose exercises according to your body. Avoid excessive tiredness or stress so that the body does not lose energy. Fourth, get enough rest. Get enough sleep and allow your body to recover by taking short breaks during the day and lastly, avoid overexertion as overexertion can harm the body.
