The days of Patahi Airport located in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar are about to shine again. Under the Central Government’s ambitious ‘Udaan’ (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, efforts to reactivate this airport have been intensified. The good news for the residents of Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts is that there is a strong possibility of starting flight services of small aircraft from here from the new year 2026. The most important obstacle in the development of the airport was security, but now the construction of the boundary wall has been completed, paving the way for further development.

After years of waiting, now there is hope that the movement of aircraft will start from 2026, the work of security wall has been completed.

The latest situation towards redevelopment of the airport is quite positive. The boundary wall work has been completed to ensure the security of the airport complex by December 2025. After the security cordon is ready, the entire focus has now shifted to the construction and repair of the runway. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has increased the pace of its development. The tender process for the construction of the runway is in the final stages and it is expected to be released in the next few days, so that the construction work can start on the ground.

The existing runway will be rejuvenated and a new terminal will be built in 1250 square meters, there will be parking facility for two aircraft.

According to the blueprint of the development plan, the 1300 meter long runway at the airport will be rebuilt. In the initial phase, there is a plan to prepare a 1050 meter long and 30 meter wide runway, which will be suitable for operation of small aircraft. Keeping in mind the facilities of passengers, a modern terminal building will be built in an area of 1250 square meters. Apart from this, there will also be construction of apron (parking) for two aircraft to stand together. An amount of Rs 25 crore has been sanctioned for the boundary wall and other initial works in this entire project.

15 year agreement to open Pilot Training Academy and the campus spread over 101 acres will be expanded

Patahi Airport is spread over a vast land of 101 acres. At present this land is sufficient for the operation of small aircraft, but there are plans to acquire additional land in future if additional land is required for landing of larger aircraft. Not only passenger service, but an aviation training academy (Pilot Training Centre) will also be set up here, for which a 15-year agreement (MOU) has been signed with AAI. Keeping in view the flight safety, survey of nearby tall buildings has also been completed.

People of North Bihar will get freedom from going to Patna or Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur will be connected to metros like Delhi and Mumbai.

A large population of North Bihar will directly benefit from the opening of this airport. Till now the people of Muzaffarpur had to go to Patna or Darbhanga for air travel, due to which a lot of their time was wasted. The local MP and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar have kept this project on priority and have resolved to complete it soon with the cooperation of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. With the start of air service, Muzaffarpur will be directly connected to big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, which will not only make transportation easier but will also create new employment and business opportunities in the area.
