Torrential rains in Kolkata caused waterlogging on Tuesday, causing life to come to a standstill. During this time, at least four people have died due to current. Many areas were submerged due to heavy rains, causing traffic, public transport and daily activities to come to a standstill.

Officials said that trains and metro rail services were disrupted in the city and suburbs due to waterlogging on the tracks. The roads were submerged due to the rain that started after midnight and water entered many houses and residential complexes in the city. In the central part of the Blue Line (Dakshineshwar-Shahid Khudiram), heavy waterlogging has been reported especially between great superstars Uttam Kumar and Ravindra Sarobar stations, due to which the services on this section have been suspended immediately. A spokesman from the Metro Railway Kolkata said that services have been suspended between the martyr Khudiram and the ground stations to ensure the safety of the passengers.

“Brief services are being run between Dakshineswar and Maidan stations,” he said. He said that general services are expected to be restored soon. An Eastern Railway official said that the movement of trains in Sealdah South section has been stopped due to waterlogging on the tracks, while temporary services are being run in Sealdah North and Main Section.
