In view of the increasing tension in the Middle East, the Indian Navy has increased its strength in the Gulf region. Indian Navy warships deployed in the Gulf of Oman are on standby under Operation Sankalp. Recently, after the increased tension between Iran and Israel-America, the situation has become very delicate. Meanwhile, the death of an Indian citizen has been confirmed in the attack on oil tanker MKD VYOM in the Gulf of Oman. The Central Government and the Navy are now on alert mode for the safety of Indian citizens and ships present there.

What rules did the government issue for Indian sailors and ships?

The Director General of Shipping (DGS) has issued strict instructions for Indian sailors working on Indian flagged ships and foreign ships. Indians living in or passing through Gulf countries will now have to keep these things in mind:

Iran travel ban: Recruitment agencies have been advised not to send any Indian sailors to Iran until further orders.
Reporting Mandatory: All ships passing through the Gulf region will have to submit their information to the DGComm Center and IFC-IOR every day.
Take precautions: Sailors in the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian waters are prohibited from going ashore without reason.

If the situation worsens, an operation can be launched to evacuate the Indians safely.
