Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for strengthening the startup ecosystem in the country. Talking to startups across the country, he said that to take the culture of start-ups to every nook and corner of the country, January 16 will be celebrated as ‘National Startup Day’ from now on. Today, through video conferencing, PM Modi said that it is our endeavor to attract innovation among the students in the country since childhood. To institutionalize innovation, over 9,000 Atal Tinkering Lab schools will give children a chance to innovate, work on new ideas.
In the sixth year of Startup India, a flagship initiative of the Modi government, Prime Minister Modi met startups from various sectors including agriculture, health, enterprise systems, space, Industry 4.0, security, fintech and environment. The country’s 150 startups have been divided into six working groups. This group will give presentations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various topics. Every group will have to give a presentation against PM Modi within the stipulated time. The purpose of the dialogue between PM and Startups is to understand how startups can successfully contribute to the needs of the country.
Referring to the improvement in the Global Innovation Index, PM Modi said that the impact of the ongoing campaign on innovation in India is that India’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index has also improved significantly. In 2015, India was ranked 81 in this ranking. Whereas India is now ranked 46th in the new Global Innovation Index.
