Guwahati, November 9 (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that 1,26,793 youth have been given government jobs since the BJP government came to power in the state.
A function was held at the playground of the Veterinary College, Khanapada, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally handed over appointment letters to 5,550 candidates who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test for the posts of lower and upper primary teachers.
Of the appointments, 3,800 candidates have been appointed as Lower Primary Teachers and 1,750 as Upper Primary Teachers.
At the event, 8,799 tablets were distributed among teachers under Shikshak Samaal Package and 4,280 tablets were also launched for students under Aarohan Scheme.
Addressing the public meeting, Chief Minister Sarma recalled his 2021 election promise of providing one lakh government jobs if his party returns to power in the state.
He said, “Before me, there were 14 chief ministers in the state, but no one had given more than 25,000 appointments in a single term. Our government has not only achieved the target of one lakh but has also crossed it, and we will soon cross the target of 1.5 lakh.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that the current recruitment process has been completely transparent and merit-based, thereby eliminating corruption, nepotism and political favoritism, which were prevalent in government recruitment earlier.
Chief Minister Sarma stressed, “For decades, getting a government job in Assam meant battling corruption and court cases. Today, the youth of Assam believe that they can get jobs with merit and hard work.” He further said that no legal challenges or disputes have arisen regarding the recent recruitment drives.
