Hyderabad, July 19 (IANS). Tension remained high in Bahadurguda village near Hyderabad airport in Telangana’s Shamshabad on Sunday as officials continued fencing the 650-acre land earmarked for the proposed high-speed train hub.
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency removed the hunger strike camp of farmers late Saturday night and continued fencing what it calls government land amid tight security.
The police have taken the village under their control and have banned the entry of outsiders.
Farmers protesting against giving land for Bullet Train Hub clashed with the police on Saturday.
The farmers are demanding that the government should give them another land or give them compensation at the market rate.
He claimed that he did not have ownership rights, but he had been farming the land for years and was dependent on it for his livelihood.
However, Revenue Department officials say that the land belongs to the government.
They were protesting on the ground for the last eight days. On Saturday, when the people of Revenue Department and Hydra started fencing the land, they opposed them.
They raised slogans demanding justice and insisted that they would not give up their land until the government announced fair compensation.
It is being said that the protesters threw stones and chilli powder at the policemen. It is reported that DCP Yogesh Gautam and two sub-inspectors suffered minor injuries.
Many protesters including political activists were detained.
People alleged that electricity in the village was cut off on Friday night and outsiders were stopped from coming inside. He also claimed that school buses were stopped, forcing students to leave school and stay at home.
On the other hand, Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has supported the protesting farmers and opposed the government’s land acquisition.
BRS leader P. Karthik Reddy was stopped by the police while on his way to the village and taken into custody near his house.
Hydra said in a statement that real estate developers had set their sights on the 650-acre land located south of the Shamshabad airport runway in Bahadurguda, especially as it is adjacent to the Outer Ring Road.
It said that land worth crores of rupees was taken from farmers for a few lakh rupees. It cited official records, which show 650 acres of land in survey numbers 25 and 26 as government land.
According to Hydra, a proposal was given to the government for regularization, but the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration rejected it in 2006 saying that there is a ban on giving land in that area because it is a developed zone. Along with local villagers, many were farming the land and building farmhouses on the property.
The Center has recently announced a high-speed rail corridor connecting Hyderabad with Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru.
The state government is planning to build a bullet train hub near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.
