Imphal, April 13 (IANS). Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday once again reiterated that ensuring safety, security and peaceful co-existence of all communities is the government’s top priority.
Manipur is home to 36 communities, including both tribal and non-tribal populations, living in the Imphal Valley and hill districts of the state, an official of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said. Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, met the Chief Minister on Monday and discussed in detail the prevailing law and order situation as well as the entire security situation in the state.
The Chief Minister wrote in a post on the social media platform Facebook that it is encouraging to see that due to the combined efforts of the government and security agencies, the entire situation has improved significantly.
He wrote that ensuring safety, security and peaceful co-existence of all communities is our biggest priority. This has been fully taken into account in all our work, and necessary steps have already been taken to maintain stability and strengthen the security system.
The Chief Minister also stressed that the government fully stands by its promise of maintaining peace, enhancing mutual coordination and protecting the well-being of every citizen. According to Assam Rifles sources, Lieutenant General Lakhera also visited Keithelmanbi Cantonment on Sunday, where he took stock of the preparations for the operation in Manipur and the welfare of the soldiers.
The Director General praised this force, which is often called the ‘sentinel of the North-East’. He appreciated the professionalism of the force, honored seven soldiers for their bravery, and interacted with sports teams of Assam Rifles. Sources said that the special feature of this visit was that the morale of the soldiers was very high and they were completely dedicated to maintaining peace in the area.
Meanwhile, thousands of people, including a large number of women, took out protest rallies in Imphal on Monday. These rallies were taken out to condemn the April 7 bomb attack in Bishnupur district of Manipur, in which two small children lost their lives.
