Imphal, May 23 (IANS). Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has appealed to the youth to stay connected to their culture, traditions and values. He said that it is important to move forward in the modern and global environment, but one should never forget one’s roots.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla was speaking at a program organized at Lok Bhawan in Imphal on Saturday. During this, he sent the team from Manipur to the 11th Spic Mac International Convention to be held at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal.

Spic Macay, i.e. Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth, is a voluntary and non-political cultural movement. It aims to connect youth and students with Indian classical music, dance, folk traditions, handicrafts, yoga, meditation, heritage and Indian and global cultural heritage.

Youth from many countries including India will participate in this week-long international conference which will run from 25th to 31st May. This program will become a big platform for cultural exchange, art learning and dialogue between youth from different backgrounds.

A total of 18 members will participate in this conference from Manipur. These include students-teachers of Manipur University of Culture and students of Assam Rifles Public School, Manipukhari and Kaithelmanbi.

While interacting with the students and teachers, the Governor greeted them and said that this conference will provide them a great opportunity to understand the rich cultural heritage of India and global art traditions.

He advised the students to try to learn as much as possible from the various workshops, cultural presentations and sessions organized during the conference. Also gain new experiences by interacting with participants from other states and countries.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that such platforms increase respect for cultural diversity among the youth and strengthen unity, creativity and mutual understanding in the society.

Many senior officers of Assam Rifles, officials of SPIC McKay Imphal Chapter and representatives of schools were also present in the program.
