Bengaluru, May 27 (IANS). Amid speculations of leadership change in Karnataka, AICC general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday dismissed reports of any kind of ‘power sharing’ within the Congress, saying no decision has been taken officially regarding the change of chief minister.
However, he refrained from giving any direct reaction on the rumors of Siddaramaiah’s possible resignation.
Surjewala praised both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for their contributions to the party.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Surjewala said there is no such thing as ‘power sharing’. Yesterday’s meeting was held in connection with the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar, Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal participated in the discussion.
Referring to the current political speculations, Surjewala dismissed these reports as mere rumours. They said that
Many people are spreading different things. No meeting of the Congress Assembly has been called yet. These are all speculations.
He reiterated that both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are important leaders of the party and said any decision will be taken keeping in mind the interests of the people of Karnataka. Siddaramaiah is a very important leader. Shivkumar has emerged from organizational work. Whatever decision is taken, we will inform the people of Karnataka. Decisions are not taken for individuals but in the interest of Karnataka and its people.
He said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is a very important leader and has his own political stature. He has been Chief Minister twice.
Praising Deputy Chief Minister Shivkumar, Surjewala said that Shivkumar has grown as a young leader and has worked under many chief ministers.
He said that Shivakumar has emerged as a leader from the grassroots level. He has worked under many Chief Ministers. We do not take decisions in favor of any particular person. Decisions are taken in the public interest.
