Uttarakhand News: Dehradun. There is news of great relief for the railway passengers of Uttarakhand. After the efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Railway Ministry has approved increasing the service of Tanakpur-Dehradun Express (15019/15020) from weekly to tri-weekly. Railway Board has issued a formal order in this regard.
Result of Chief Minister Dhami’s efforts
Chief Minister Dhami had discussed this topic during his meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi on October 8, 2025. Taking immediate action, the Railway Ministry has taken this decision on the request of the Chief Minister. According to the new arrangement, 15019 Dehradun–Tanakpur Express will now run on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while 15020 Tanakpur–Dehradun Express will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Earlier this train ran only once a week.
The people of the state will get great facilities
The Railway Ministry has said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the increasing demand of passengers and regional connectivity. In the order, the Ministry has given instructions to implement this service extension with immediate effect and to inform the passengers.
Chief Minister Dhami thanked the Railway Minister and the Railway Board for this decision. He said, “The extension of Tanakpur-Dehradun rail service will further ease the connectivity between Kumaon and Garhwal. This step will not only increase the convenience of passengers, but will also give a new direction to trade, tourism and regional development.”
Historic work to strengthen rail connectivity
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, historic work is being done to strengthen rail connectivity in Uttarakhand. Railway projects are progressing rapidly in many parts of the state, which will ensure rail access to the hilly and border areas.
Issuing the order, Vivek Kumar Sinha, Joint Director (Coaching), Ministry of Railways, said that the responsibility of publicity and implementation of this decision has been given to the respective zones.
