New Delhi, November 17 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday that the central government is committed to strengthening India’s deep tech ecosystem, improving ease-of-doing business and promoting innovation-entrepreneurship.

Union Minister Goyal launched the Startup Search initiative of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP) and PlastIndia Foundation in order to promote innovation and sustainability.

He said, “With this initiative, it is expected that the plastics industry will take a significant leap towards 100 percent reuse and recycling of plastics. This initiative will play an important role in meeting the country’s national sustainability goals and the growing global demand for environmentally responsible products.”

The aim of this initiative is to connect innovators and entrepreneurs with investors and partners. The program focuses on innovation and sustainability to drive growth in the plastics industry by connecting startups with funding and industrial support.

The upcoming PlastIndia 2026 event will become a central platform for these startups to showcase their technologies and solutions, with the theme being Bharat Next.

“In collaboration with PlastIndia Foundation and IIM Calcutta, the Startup Search program under the National Innovation Challenge will identify high-potential startups in plastics, recycling, materials, sustainability and circular economy,” said Ravish Kamath, Chairman, PlastIndia Foundation.

Giving information, he said that the top 10 startups will be given price money of more than Rs 2 lakh each. Additionally, the winning startup will receive exclusive mentorship from IIM Calcutta.

Alok Tibrewala, Chairman, National Executive Committee, said, “The Startup initiative is designed to introduce new ideas and support India’s innovation system. It aims to drive growth and innovation in India’s plastics sector by providing a platform for startups to connect with key players.”

He further said that the innovative startups of this initiative will get an opportunity to showcase their solutions at PlastIndia 2026, which will be India’s biggest plastics event to be held in New Delhi next year.
