New Delhi, December 25 (IANS). According to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Choudhary, there is a need for deeper collaboration between the government, industry, academia and training institutes to build Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities on a large scale.

He said that the government is strengthening co-ownership of the skill industry. The government is promoting flexible learning styles and ensuring ‘our training systems remain relevant to real-world needs’.

“By embedding AI skills in education, vocational training and the workforce, we are laying the foundation for a thriving India in an AI-enabled global economy,” the minister said during a strategic meeting on ‘Skilling for AI’ here.

The meeting focused on integrating AI into the national skilling roadmap to support the vision of ‘Developed India’.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) convened a multi-stakeholder consultation that brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, representatives from the India AI Mission, industry leaders, regulators, academia and key skilling ecosystem partners to discuss strengthening India’s Artificial Intelligence talent landscape.

The objective of this consultation was to bring together policy vision, industry needs and skilling implementation to create a future-ready workforce that can support India’s ambitions in an AI-driven global economy.

The central theme of the discussion was the huge and urgent need for skilled people in the field of AI, seen in the context of MSDE’s growing portfolio of digital and technology-focused skilling initiatives.

According to an official statement, the discussions emphasized the importance of continuous upskilling and reskilling in the workforce, which complements the ministry’s ongoing efforts to equip learners and employees with relevant, applied AI competencies.

The statement further said that the participants took note of the steady progress made by MSDE in advancing AI skilling through structured programs and partnerships.

Ongoing initiatives to build early AI awareness and foundational capabilities among students were highlighted as a strong foundation on which this consultation seeks to build further.

These efforts were recognized to strengthen the long-term talent pipeline and foster digital confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills at an early stage.
