The question of whether mobile towers cause cancer has long been a cause of fear and concern for many people. Many rumors are often spread due to the installation of towers, such as that big towers emit more radiation or that living near them can cause serious diseases. If you are also worried about this, then the Government of India has made its stand clear on this matter.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on behalf of the Government of India, while sharing the information on social media platform In this post, the findings of both the Government of India and the World Health Organization (WHO) have been cited. According to the government, mobile towers and the waves emanating from them are within the prescribed safety standards and are not harmful to health.

Actually, EMF (Electromagnetic Field) is not a new or unusual phenomenon. It exists naturally all around us. Natural sources such as the Earth, the Sun, and the ionosphere also generate EMFs. According to the government’s Wave Communication Portal, both mobile phones and mobile towers operate at low power. A mobile phone’s radio transmitter is designed to communicate only with the nearest tower, and radiation levels from the tower are also kept very low.

The Government of India has further strengthened the rules related to the security of mobile towers. Since 2008, standards have been in place that are ten times more stringent than the internationally established ICNIRP guidelines. Moreover, the safe limit of radiation from mobile towers in India is only one-tenth of the limit recommended by WHO. This means that extra precautions are taken when it comes to safety. If a tower is found to be emitting radiation in excess of the prescribed standards, heavy fines are imposed, and if necessary, the tower can also be shut down.

WHO has also conducted a large-scale study on the relationship between mobile towers and cancer. After reviewing nearly 25,000 research papers and articles published around the world, WHO has clearly stated that there is no strong scientific evidence of adverse health effects from weak radio frequency waves emitted from base stations and wireless networks. In later years, WHO also reiterated regarding 5G networks that wireless technology has not been proven to cause cancer or other serious diseases.
