New Delhi, June 25 (IANS). India and the US held high-level talks in Washington to deepen bilateral cooperation in semiconductor manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), supply chain and critical minerals. This information was given in a statement issued on Thursday.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, the Indian Embassy in Washington said that Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S. Krishnan met with US Under Secretary of State Jacob S. to discuss ways to increase cooperation in key technology sectors. Met Halberg.
“S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, met US Under Secretary of State Jacob S. Helberg to further strengthen bilateral technology cooperation,” the embassy said in the post.
Both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in building diverse and reliable supply chains, especially in the areas of semiconductor manufacturing and AI adoption.
Additionally, officials discussed measures to ensure access to essential minerals. These minerals are considered very important for advanced manufacturing, clean energy technology and other strategic industries.
This conversation is taking place at a time when cooperation between India and America is increasing in the field of important and emerging technology. Both countries are trying to strengthen supply chains and reduce dependence on others in strategically important sectors.
Earlier this month, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that there is a shortage of about 10 lakh (one million) professionals in the global semiconductor industry. This is a big opportunity for India to emerge as a major supplier of skilled talent in this sector.
According to the minister, the value of the global semiconductor industry is currently around $800 billion and it is expected that it will cross the $1 trillion mark within a year.
Vaishnav had said, “By 2032, about 10 lakh jobs are expected to be created in the semiconductor sector worldwide. Also, there is a shortage of about 10 lakh skilled professionals in this industry.”
