Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the body that manages Aadhaar services in India, has clarified that the old mAadhaar app is going to be shut down soon. It has been replaced by the new Aadhaar app, which is said to be faster, more secure and easier to use than its previous version. Sharing this information through its official The new app is now available for both Android and iPhone devices.
What is special in the new Aadhaar app?
Many new features have been provided in the new Aadhaar app to improve user privacy and security. The most significant change is the introduction of QR code-based Aadhaar sharing facility. It lets users verify their identity without revealing their full Aadhaar number.
The app also includes a new option called “Selective Share”. This feature allows users to decide which information to share and which to hide during the verification process. This significantly improves both data security and privacy. Furthermore, the app also supports offline QR verification; This means that identity can be verified by scanning the QR code at an authorized terminal, even if an Internet connection is not available. According to UIDAI, this new platform supports 13 Indian languages, to make it easier for people from different states to use it.
Enhanced security with biometric lock
The option of “Biometric Lock” is also given in this new app. Users can now lock authentication methods using their fingerprint, face and iris directly through the app to prevent any potential misuse. If required, this lock can also be unlocked through the app itself.
Add family members to the same app account
A feature called “Family Profile” has also been included in the Aadhaar app. Under this feature, up to five family members can be linked to the same account. This makes it easy to manage multiple Aadhaar profiles from a single central location. However, UIDAI has also issued a warning: If a user loses access to his linked mobile number or device, his access to Aadhaar services may be temporarily suspended. **How to set up the new Aadhaar app?** First of all, download the new Aadhaar app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Next, open the app and select the language of your choice. Now, register using your mobile number or any other mobile number linked to Aadhaar. Then, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and complete the OTP verification process. Next, you have to perform face authentication in the right light. Finally, you can complete the setup by creating a 6-digit app password.
What will existing mAadhaar users have to do?
UIDAI has not yet clarified whether the data from the old mAadhaar app will be automatically transferred to the new app or not. Therefore, there is a possibility that existing users may have to manually set up their profile again in the new app.
