Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made many tasks easier today—from coding to content writing. But can it also control your dreams, which you see while sleeping? With the same claim, AI startup Prophetic AI has introduced a unique wearable gadget. The company claims that with the help of this device, users can control their dreams themselves. The starting price of this device has been kept at around $449 (approximately ₹42,000). However, questions still remain regarding the veracity of this claim.
How does this dream-control gadget work?
The company has launched two new devices: “Dual” and “Phase.” They look like headbands, which are worn on the head. According to the company, these devices trigger “lucid dreaming” (conscious dreams). Lucid dreaming is a condition in which a person—even while dreaming—becomes aware that he or she is actually dreaming, and can actively influence or change the narrative of the dream.
The science behind this technology
According to Prophetic AI, these devices send safe ultrasonic waves through the head, which work to activate the prefrontal cortex of the brain. This special part of the brain is associated with cognitive functions like thinking and decision making. While sleeping, this part is usually less active, which is why we usually have no control over our dreams. The device attempts to control this neural activity, allowing the user to maintain a state of consciousness within their dreams. Additionally, the device is also equipped with electroencephalogram (EEG) sensors that continuously monitor brain activity. Similar technology is also being used in projects like Neuralink.
Will this technology really work?
This gadget is based on an advanced technology called Transcranial Focused Ultrasound (tFUS), which is being used in conjunction with AI. Its purpose is to target a specific part of the brain during the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) stage of sleep. Theoretically, this process could make dreams more vivid, memorable, and controllable. However, the effectiveness of this approach has not yet been conclusively proven.
Price and availability
The Dual model of Prophetic AI will be available for $449 (approximately ₹43,000), and its deliveries are expected to start by the end of this year. Whereas the Phase model is priced at $1,299 (approximately ₹1.2 lakh), and its shipping may start by mid-2027. AI is constantly pushing new boundaries, and the idea of controlling dreams is really exciting. However, for now, it is important to wait for solid scientific evidence before considering it completely reliable.
