Thousands of people took to the streets in a solemn funeral procession after more than 150 schoolgirls were killed in Iran following US-Israeli attacks on Saturday, Iranian state media Press TV reported on Tuesday.

Visuals shared by Press TV showed a huge gathering of people protesting against the killing of innocent young students killed in the missile attack.

In a post on X, Press TV said, “Another view of the funeral procession of those martyred in the American and Israeli regime’s terrorist attack on Minab elementary school.”

In another post she further said, “Huge crowds of people are joining the funeral procession of over 165 innocent Iranian schoolgirls killed by the US and Israel on Saturday.”

The death toll in Iran has now reached nearly 150, with nearly 100 injured after US-Israeli strikes targeted Minab Girls Primary School in the country’s Hormozgan province, according to UN news.

In a statement released on social media, UNESCO expressed deep concern at the impact of military attacks that continued through Sunday, saying that pupils in places dedicated to education are protected under international humanitarian law, and that “attacks on educational institutions put students and teachers at risk and undermine the right to education.”

A full-scale conflict broke out between the United States, Israel, and Iran in West Asia after a major “military operation” launched on February 28, leading to widespread protests.

In a coordinated campaign known as Operation Epic Fury/Roaring Lion, American and Israeli forces launched massive air and missile strikes across Iran, targeting key military sites, nuclear-related infrastructure, and leadership complexes.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Monday (local time) sent an official letter to Congress regarding US strikes against Iran, in which he justified military action, Fox News reported.

In his letter, Trump said that these strikes were carried out on his instructions on February 28 to protect US interests, ensure the unhindered flow of maritime commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, and in the collective self-defense of regional allies, including allied countries.

Trump wrote, “At my direction, on February 28, 2026, United States forces conducted precision strikes against multiple targets inside Iran, including ballistic missile sites, maritime minefield capabilities, air defense, and command and control capabilities. These strikes were conducted in furtherance of vital U.S. national interests, including protecting United States forces in the region, defending the United States homeland, and ensuring the unimpeded flow of maritime commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.” And were undertaken for the collective self-defense of our regional allies, including Israel.”

Trump further stated that no United States ground forces were used in these attacks, and that the mission was planned and executed in a manner that minimized civilian casualties, prevented future attacks, and neutralized Iran’s malign activities.

In response, Iran retaliated by attacking US assets and allies across the region, including Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, with ballistic missiles and drones, further escalating the conflict and increasing the risks to both civilians and migrants.

In view of the increasing threat of regional conflict, world leaders and international organizations are currently appealing for reducing tension, although the fighting continues and there is no clear end in sight.
