According to the Taliban government Bakhtar News Agency report, on Monday, local officials said that at least 250 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in several districts of the hill north-eastern Kunar province. The number of dead may increase further. According to the report, the relief teams are struggling to reach some remote areas and their progress has been disrupted due to landslides.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid posted on X, unfortunately, tonight earthquake has caused loss of life and economic loss in some of our eastern provinces. Currently, local officials and residents are making every effort to save the affected people. Assistance teams from the capital and nearby provinces are also arriving, all available resources will be used for rescue and relief of people.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said in a statement that earthquakes were also felt in many cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces of neighboring Pakistan. According to the USGS, at least 5 tremors were felt in the region, the most powerful jerks were 5.2 intensity a few hours after the early earthquake.
