In view of the ongoing protests in Nepal, officials have issued an alert on the Indo-Nepal border. India’s Border Security Force, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has increased vigilance and is closely monitoring the situation to prevent any kind of unrest in Indian territory.
Officials told ANI, “Alert has been issued on the Indo-Nepal border in view of protests in Nepal. The Sashastra Seema Bal is keeping a close watch on the development.”
Officials emphasized that the current alert is “preventive of nature” and the situation is under control.
According to officials, adequate deployment has been done on the border and strict investigation has been done at several border posts. Coordination with the local administration has also been increased to ensure smooth movement of people while maintaining security.
The Indo-Nepal border, more than 1,751 km spread over 1,751 km spread over states including Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim, allows unnecessary movement of citizens of both countries. While this system promotes close socio-economic and cultural relations, on the other hand, there is also a need for tight security if political unrest or protests in Nepal.
In the past, an alerts on the border have been issued during internal turmoil in Nepal, including the 2015 Madheshi protests, which affected the trade and cross-border traffic.
One of the Central Armed Police Forces of India (CAPF), SSB, which has more than 90,000 personnel, keeps a strict monitoring and sends regular reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs. In addition to border security, SSB is also deployed in anti -terrorism and internal security works in various parts of India if required.
SSB is on alert after thousands of youth in Nepal’s shutdown of social media closure and entering Parliament against alleged government corruption on Monday.
The Nepal government has blocked access to several social media platforms, including Facebook, claiming that fake ID social media users are spreading hatred speeches and fake news and committing fraud and other crimes through some platforms.
