New Delhi. Investigating cases related to online betting apps, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sent notice to two legendary tech companies Google and Meta. Representatives of these companies have been called for questioning 21 July. It is alleged that Google and Meta worked to promote betting apps through their digital platforms. Promoted the advertisements and websites of betting apps prominently. Due to this, the popularity of online betting apps increased and the common people have access to these easily. The ED also alleges that Google and Meta also promoted betting apps that are under investigation into serious crimes like money laundering.
According to the ED, black earnings made through these online betting apps are being sent outside the country through hawala. ED’s action continues across the country regarding this. Recently on 15 July, ED raided several places against illegal box trading and online betting network in Mumbai. The ED also recovered cash worth more than Rs 3 crore during this period. Apart from this, along with many luxury watches, expensive cars were also seized.
The Enforcement Directorate registered a case against 29 people last week, including famous actors Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati and Vijay Devarkonda to TV hosts and social media influencers. All of them are accused of promoting online betting apps. According to the ED, these people have earned big money to promote betting apps.
