According to the President’s Office, the swearing -in ceremony of the Interim Prime Minister in Nepal will take place at 9 pm. Sushila Karki is 73 years old, Nepal’s first woman will be the Prime Minister.

Sushila Karki was born on 7 June 1952 in Biratnagar, Nepal. He graduated from Birtnagar in 1972 and in 1975 he earned a postgraduate degree in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). In 1978, Karki completed law studies from Tribhuvan University. In 1979, she started advocacy in Baratnagar and during this time she also served as an assistant teacher at Mahendra Multiple Campus of Dharan in 1985. The significant stop for his judicial visit came in 2009, when he was appointed a temporary judge in the Supreme Court.

In 2010, Sushila Karki became a permanent judge. In 2016, she was the acting Chief Justice for some time and took over as the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal from 11 July 2016 to 6 June 2017. In April 2017, the then government made impeachment motion against him in Parliament. After the proposal came, he was suspended from the post of Chief Justice till the investigation was completed. During this time, the public raised his voice in support of the independence of the judiciary and the Supreme Court stopped Parliament from further action. In the midst of increasing pressure, Parliament had to withdraw the proposal in a few days. Sushila Karki was identified as a judge who did not bow under power pressure from this incident.
