Indore, January 16 (IANS). Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Friday that the state government has set an example by suspending an IAS officer in the case of water adulteration in Indore’s Bhagirathpura. In response, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh accused him of failing to fix responsibility against senior officials and local BJP leaders.

Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has said that dozens of deaths due to water adulteration in Indore’s Bhagirathpura should be investigated by a serving judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The Congress leader also demanded a public hearing in the matter and said that the state government’s reports (status reports submitted to the Madhya Pradesh High Court) should also be made public for the public.

Digvijay Singh said, “All documents related to the Bhagirathpura incident should be made public so that those responsible can be found. I am confident that the Chief Minister will show courage and order a judicial inquiry into this matter.”

He criticized the state government, saying that merely suspending junior officers and transferring some municipal corporation employees was an attempt to protect the main culprits.

He gave this statement on a day when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is going to reach Indore on Saturday and meet the affected families of Bhagirathpura. Digvijay Singh and State Congress President Jitu Patwari will also be present in Indore along with Rahul Gandhi.

At the same time, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, while targeting Congress at a program in Narmadapuram district, said that “Rahul Gandhi is coming to Indore to do politics on deaths.”

Chief Minister Yadav said, “Our government took strong action in the Bhagirathpura tragedy. We suspended an IAS officer, which is an example.”

The Madhya Pradesh government told the Indore bench on Thursday that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh has been given to the families of 21 deceased in Bhagirathpura area, although all the deaths were not medically confirmed to be due to water adulteration.

Madhya Pradesh High Court has scheduled the next hearing of this case on January 20.
