New Delhi, February 20 (IANS). Qualcomm Technologies and Tata Electronics on Friday announced that they will collaborate to manufacture ‘Qualcomm Automotive Modules’ at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam.

In line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the collaboration aims to indigenously produce automotive technologies for digital cockpit, infotainment, connectivity and intelligent vehicle systems.

Domestic manufacturing of these modules will help meet the growing demand from Indian and global automakers as well as make the supply chain more flexible and diverse.

With this new collaboration, Tata Electronics joins Qualcomm Technologies’ network of global module manufacturing partners, which aims to meet the growing global demand for modular automotive platforms, it said in a statement.

According to the release, Qualcomm Automotive Modules integrate Snapdragon digital chassis system-on-chips with essential system components to form a ready-to-produce module, providing a complete electronics platform for automakers.

The companies said the simple system design and rapid development process of these modules will result in scalable and ready-to-use architectures that will help the industry move towards software-defined vehicles.

“As the industry increasingly moves toward integrated and module-based architectures, expanding manufacturing capacity in key areas becomes essential,” said Nakul Duggal, EVP and Group GM, Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT & Robotics division, Qualcomm Technologies.

Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President, Qualcomm India, said, “By providing comprehensive and easily integrated solutions, we help automakers reduce design complexity and bring next-generation vehicles to market faster.”

Soin further said that manufacturing in India through Tata Electronics will enhance the company’s capabilities, allowing it to support Indian and global OEMs with greater flexibility and stronger supply chains.

The greenfield, high capacity semiconductor assembly and test facility being built at Jagiroad is India’s first indigenous OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility, which is being built with an investment of $3 billion.

The facility will work on critical technologies such as wire bond, flip chip and integrated systems packaging (ISP) and manufacture products required for key sectors such as automotive, communications, IoT and AI.
