New Delhi, June 13 (IANS). R.P. Singh said that the fire in a government building in Alipore, West Bengal and allegedly burning of around 4,000 EVM machines, should not be given a political colour. He said, “An accident can happen anywhere and it is an accident. It is being investigated. But it is not right to create unnecessary political atmosphere over it. Fire can happen due to any reason, it is possible that short circuit may have happened. In this incident, not only EVMs but many other documents have also been burnt.”
Taking aim at the opposition, he said that it is not appropriate to reach any conclusion without completing the investigation and it is wrong to make such incidents a political issue.
Regarding the order for bulldozer action on the house of Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, he clarified that this action has not been taken with any vendetta. He said, “If a building is constructed illegally and is not in accordance with the rules, then it is natural to take action against it. This is not an act of revenge. Besides, an attempt was also made to protect those who were guilty in the RG tax case, so investigation and action were necessary.”
RP on the statements made regarding Indus water dispute and Pakistan. Singh said that the policy of the Government of India is clear. He said that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have made it clear that terrorism and water resources cannot go together.
He said, “India’s stated policy is that no concession will be given to a country that promotes terrorism. Until Pakistan stops supporting terrorism, no special benefit will be given to it.” He also said that India’s stand on the Indus Water Treaty is very strict and there will be no compromise in matters related to national security.
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s proposed nationwide campaign, which aims to raise issues like paper leaks and unemployment, R.P. Singh said that the opposition has the right to do its politics, but they should also understand the achievements of the government.
He said, “The opposition has the right to run their campaigns, but they are forgetting that crores of people have got employment and self-employment opportunities under the schemes of the central government. More than 57 crore people have got benefits under the Mudra scheme and employment opportunities are being created on a large scale every year.”
