Dhaka, 18 September (IANS). In Bangladesh, on Wednesday, the number of people who died of dengue increased to six. In this way, in 2025, the total number of people who died of mosquito -borne disease has increased to 167. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of Bangladesh has confirmed this.

The United News of Bangladesh (UNB) quoted DGHS as saying that two deaths were recorded in Dhaka North Municipal Corporation, two in Dhaka South Municipal Corporation, one in Rarshal division and one in Chittagong division. According to the report, a total of 647 patients were admitted to Bangladesh hospitals till Thursday morning and thus the total number of dengue victims has increased to 38,527 in 2025.

According to DGHS, 128 in Dhaka South Municipal Corporation, 113 in Dhaka North Municipal Corporation, 108 in Varshaal Division (outside the Municipal Corporation), 102 in Dhaka Division (outside the Municipal Corporation), 96 in Chittagong Division (outside the Municipal Corporation), 38 in Rajshahi Division (outside of Municipal Corporation), 38 in Khulna Division (outside Municipal Corporation) and 25 new matters were recorded Went.

Currently, 2042 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Bangladesh. According to the report, 62.6 percent of the patients were men while 37.4 percent were females. In 2024, 575 people died of dengue. During the same period, DGHS reported 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 in Bangladesh.

Earlier on 16 September, DGHS announced new instructions for government hospitals to ensure treatment of dengue victims. According to the guidelines, all hospitals in Bangladesh will have to establish dedicated wards for the treatment of dengue and form a special medical team. According to local media reports, DGHS believes that this decision will help improve patients’ care and improve the quality of hospital services.

DGHS Director (Hospital and Clinic) Abu Hussain MD Manul Ahsan issued this directive on Tuesday. DGHS said that hospitals will have to ensure special arrangements for dengue patients undergoing treatment. According to the Dhaka Tribune report, hospitals have been instructed to ensure NS-1 investigation, emergency care and adequate medicines for patients.

Patients undergoing treatment of dengue in hospitals should be kept in a prescribed ward or room and ICU assistance should be given priority if required. In addition, doctors and nurses have been given special responsibilities.

The instructions have been called to form a board of medical, pediatric and other specialist physicians for the treatment of patients suffering from dengue and chikungunya. Under the supervision of this board, trained doctors, medical officers and resident doctors will take care of patients with dengue and chikungunya.

According to the instructions, these boards and doctors will treat suspected patients coming to external patients of hospitals. In this, the hospital directors have also been ordered to take proper measures to municipal corporations or municipalities for not allowing mosquitoes to flourish around the hospital premises and sending letters to run cleanliness drives.
