Amravati, June 19 (IANS). The family members of Gade Sai Krishna, who has been missing for more than a month, met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday. Sai Krishna is being alleged to have died in police custody.
The youth’s mother Vijay Lakshmi appealed to the Chief Minister to investigate her son’s disappearance and provide justice. The Chief Minister consoled him and assured him that a fair investigation would be conducted into the matter.
CM Naidu told the family that he has already ordered an inquiry and Circle Inspector Nagaraju of the police station has been suspended. He made it clear that the culprits will not be spared.
Vijay Lakshmi expressed satisfaction over the Chief Minister’s assurance of providing justice. After meeting the Chief Minister, he said that he has full confidence that his son will get justice.
He said that the Chief Minister has assured that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted into the matter and the culprits will be punished.
Sai Krishna’s family members met the Chief Minister at a time when former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had gone to Vijayawada and met Vijay Lakshmi a day earlier. He had demanded a CBI inquiry into the disappearance and alleged custodial death of Sai Krishna.
Sai Krishna, 26, a resident of Krishna Lanka area of Vijayawada, was detained by the police on May 9 for questioning in a case. Since then he has not returned home.
His mother had filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court. The court had directed Krishna Lanka Police to produce Sai Krishna on June 15. The police failed to do so, following which the High Court ordered his production by June 29.
On June 17, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had ordered an investigation into the matter by a senior IPS officer. Also, Circle Inspector Nagaraju of Krishna Lanka police station was suspended.
Meanwhile, East Godavari district superintendent of police D Narasimha Kishore, appointed to lead the investigation, has reached Vijayawada.
Police have recorded the statements of Vijay Lakshmi and two other family members.
Earlier, the police had registered a case against the suspended officer. On the complaint of Vijay Lakshmi, a case has been registered against Nagaraju on charges of illegal detention, murder and destruction of evidence.
The case has been registered under sections 127(4), 127(6), 103(1) and 238 of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS).
Vijay Lakshmi alleges that her son was tortured and beaten to death in police custody.
