Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar Arrested: A shameful and big news has come out today for Punjab Police. Ropar Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar has been arrested by the CBI on charges of taking bribe red-handed. This high-profile arrest has created a stir in the police department. Bhullar is accused of demanding a huge amount from a scrap dealer in exchange for allowing him to run his illegal business.
Arrested from Ambala
CBI arrested DIG Bhullar from Ambala, Haryana. According to sources, after his arrest he was brought directly to Mohali. CBI teams swung into action with his arrest and conducted search operations at Bhullar’s office, government residence and some other suspicious locations. What has been found in this raid is yet to be revealed. At present, the CBI team has taken him to Panchkula for further questioning. The officials ensured that no Punjab Police officer was included in the raiding team, so that the investigation was not hampered.
Monthly ‘bribe’ game of Rs 5 lakh
This whole matter started with the complaint of a scrap dealer from Mandi Gobindgarh. The businessman had told CBI that DIG Bhullar was demanding monthly ‘bribe’ to continue his illegal car business (in which scrap vehicles were being sold by changing chassis numbers). Initially the DIG asked for Rs 2 lakh, but later it was increased to Rs 5 lakh per month. As soon as the complaint was received, CBI laid a trap. As soon as the businessman gave the money to the DIG, the CBI arrested him on the spot. During interrogation, Bhullar confessed to taking bribe, after which a case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Will appear in court tomorrow
Bhullar, who has previously been SSP in several districts, is the son of former DGP Mehal Singh Bhullar and his younger brother Kuldeep Singh Bhullar is a former Congress MLA. This arrest has created a stir in both the politics and administration of Punjab. CBI will now present Harcharan Bhullar in the Special Court of Chandigarh tomorrow, where many more secrets related to this case may come to light.
