New Delhi, May 7 (IANS). Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday held an important meeting with officials of the Department of Commerce (DOC) and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). During this, measures to increase the global expansion of Indian businesses were discussed.
According to the minister, the discussion focused on promoting exports and investments, opening up opportunities for interested exporters and penetrating new global markets.
Measures to increase global reach for Indian businesses, strengthen export promotion efforts and increase participation of industries across the country were also considered, the Union minister said in a post on social media platform X.
Despite uncertainties arising from the US tariff dispute and geopolitical tensions, India’s total goods and services exports grew by 4.6 per cent to a record $863.11 billion during FY 2025-26, compared to $825.26 billion in the previous fiscal, according to the latest data compiled by the Commerce Ministry.
Merchandise exports registered a growth of 0.93 per cent during the financial year to $441.78 billion from $437.70 billion in 2024-25. This growth came in a difficult year affected by disruptions in shipping movements and uncertainties in demand in overseas markets.
Services exports recorded a strong growth of 8.71 per cent and reached an all-time high of $421.32 billion in 2025-26, up from $387.55 billion in the previous financial year. This growth reflects the continued global demand for India’s IT services, business solutions and professional expertise.
Meanwhile, despite supply chain disruptions due to the Middle East conflict and uncertainties in global markets, total exports in the first three weeks of April increased by more than 20 percent compared to the same period last year.
The major products whose exports have shown significant growth during the period from April 1 to 21 are petroleum products and electronic goods, the statement said.
India has emerged as a major exporter of electronic goods with companies like technology giant Apple setting up manufacturing units in the country.
Goyal said there has been an increase in exports in the first three weeks of April. Despite the war in West Asia, there is tremendous enthusiasm among domestic exporters.
