The United Nations (UN) has released a new and worrying report on the current situation in Lebanon. So far, 11 lakh people have been rendered homeless due to Israel’s military action and ground attacks. This number is about one-fifth of Lebanon’s total population. People are leaving their homes and wandering in search of safe havens and the humanitarian crisis there is continuously deepening.
What is the real situation of the displaced people?
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has confirmed that a large number of those displaced are children and women. About 1.37 lakh people are living in about 700 collective shelters, most of which are schools. The rest are either with their relatives or are forced to live in open areas where there are no basic facilities. The displaced include approximately 6.20 lakh women and girls, who are in urgent need of health and protection.
How much was the loss of life and property in the attacks?
According to the reports of the Lebanese Health Ministry and the United Nations, the situation remains quite serious. Health services have also been badly affected and there is a huge shortage of funds for relief work. The key figures can be understood in the table given below:

The United Nations has warned that the humanitarian situation in Lebanon is deteriorating at a rapid pace. 15 percent of Lebanon has been affected due to Israel’s evacuation orders. Evacuation orders have been given for many villages in South Lebanon, causing panic among civilians. There are continuous appeals at the international level to stop the war and provide humanitarian aid.
