Tension has increased significantly between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Iran’s United Nations (UN) envoy Amir Saeed Iravani has formally informed the Security Council that the UAE is allowing the US to use its territory for attacks. Iran has called it an internationally wrong act and has demanded compensation, holding the UAE responsible for it.
What serious allegations has Iran made against UAE?
Iran’s ambassador Aamir Saeed Iravani has written a letter to the UN Secretary General and the Security Council registering his objection against the UAE. Iran claims that the US military is carrying out military activities against Iran from UAE soil.
According to Iran, allowing a country’s territory to be used for attacks is a violation of international law. Iran has warned that if any military base or facility is used to attack it, it will consider it a legitimate military target and will retaliate. The Iranian Foreign Minister had also earlier alleged that UAE territory was used for the attack on Kharg Island. Iran says it should get compensation for all the damage caused.
What is UAE’s response to this and what is the current situation?
UAE has completely rejected all these allegations. UAE President’s advisor Anwar Gargash has called these claims false and baseless. The UAE says it prioritizes its right to self-defense and is exercising restraint to maintain peace in the region.
