New Delhi, July 18 (IANS). Union Minister Prahlad Joshi on Saturday inaugurated the ‘Indian Standard Time’ dissemination demonstration network based on ‘White Rabbit Technology’ at the Regional Reference Standards Laboratory in Bengaluru.
This demonstration network helps to securely propagate Indian Standard Time aligned to UTC (NPLI) using ‘White Rabbit’ technology based on Precision Time Protocol (PTP).
According to a statement from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, it provides highly accurate, secure and robust time synchronization for critical sectors such as banking and financial markets, telecom, power systems, transport, digital governance and other critical infrastructure.
This network has been jointly developed by the Department of Consumer Affairs, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Prahlad Joshi said that accurate and secure dissemination of Indian Standard Time is emerging as an important digital public infrastructure for the country.
He said a trusted national source of time would strengthen consumer protection, facilitate fair trade, improve cyber security, enhance the credibility of financial markets and strengthen digital governance.
The Minister also informed that the Department of Consumer Affairs, in collaboration with CSIR-NPL, ISRO, SEBI, National Stock Exchange (NSE), BSNL and other concerned entities, has successfully completed the verification of secure transmission of Indian Standard Time between RRSL Bengaluru and NSE Chennai using this technology.
Prahlad Joshi visited Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bengaluru. He reviewed the progress of the ‘Indian Standard Time Dissemination Project’ being run by the Department of Consumer Affairs in collaboration with CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), ISRO and other related organizations.
He took stock of the facilities developed for propagation of Indian Standard Time and interacted with scientists and engineers associated with the project. He appreciated ISRO’s contribution in creating a developed, safe and robust time propagation infrastructure in the country.
The Minister also praised ISRO’s collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs and CSIR-National Physical Laboratory in taking forward the ‘One Nation, One Time’ initiative of the government.
