Considering the regional security situation in Bahrain, the government has taken a major decision. From Sunday, March 1, 2026, all educational institutions in the state have been shifted to online mode until further orders. What is the new order for schools and colleges?
The Education Ministry has clarified that this rule will be applicable to both government and private schools, kindergartens and universities. All educational institutions will have to continue their studies through digital platforms. On 28 February, Bahrain’s National Communication Center and Defense Force confirmed that security had been increased due to some missile attacks. A base belonging to the US Navy was also targeted in these attacks, after which this precautionary step has been taken.
What was the impact on government offices and air travel?
There has been a change not only in schools, but also in the way government offices work. Civil Service Bureau has issued an order for 70% work from home for all ministries and government agencies. Only those employees will be called to office whose presence is mandatory for security and essential services. Additionally, there was a brief disruption in flights at Bahrain International Airport due to the temporary closure of the airspace.
What are the rules regarding fees and studies?
It is important for parents to know that currently there has been no reduction in school fees during online studies. As per the rules of private schools, fees are not refundable if studies continue. More than 200 government and more than 80 private schools in Bahrain come under the purview of this decision. Students of government schools will conduct their studies and exams through ‘eduNET’ portal.
