Raipur/Durg, May 12 (IANS). Four people of the same family were burnt to death due to the explosion of a domestic cooking gas cylinder in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. A one and a half year old girl is also included among the dead. This accident happened on Tuesday in ward number four of Kumhari area. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the entire area after the incident. According to police officials, the explosion occurred suddenly inside a house. The explosion was so powerful that the house immediately caught fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread so fast that the people present in the house could not come out. Neighbors tried to help, but no one could go inside due to the strong flames. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has announced additional assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. This amount will be different from the Rs 4 lakh received under government rules. Expressing grief over the incident on social media, CM said that the death of four people of the same family due to short circuit and cylinder explosion in Kumhari police station area of Durg district is very sad. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
He said that arrangements are being made to provide accommodation and other necessary facilities to the affected families and orders have been given to investigate the incident. After receiving the information, police and fire department teams reached the spot. After the fire was extinguished, four bodies were recovered from inside the house. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Anil Vaishnav, 18-year-old Vaishnav, 20-year-old Lakshmi Vaishnav and one-and-a-half-year-old girl Gopika. Police have started investigation to find out the exact cause of the blast.
It is also being seen whether there was any technical fault in the gas connection. Senior administrative officials and leaders also expressed grief over the incident and visited the spot. Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Education Minister Gajendra Yadav and MP Vijay Baghel took cognizance of the incident. The government has also announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. At the same time, the entire village is shocked by this tragic accident.
